PPA Fly-In Recap from John Pappas

Wow! What an amazing three days poker had in Washington D.C. And the momentum is continuing to build.

From Oct 22 – 24, nearly 100 PPA members including some of the top professional poker players converged on Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and defended your right to play online poker. By all accounts the Washington Fly-In and policy conference was a huge success and we made a significant impression on Congress and the media.

Make a Comment on the UIGEA Regulations

On October 1st, the Department of the Treasury and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve issued proposed regulations which, if finalized, would direct banks, credit card companies and other payment systems to take certain steps to block payments for “Unlawful Internet Gambling.” These regulations are an outgrowth of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) which was enacted last October.

Oct. 2007: Report from the Chairman

We have some excellent news for PPA members. But first, let’s take a look at how we got to where we are today.

Everyone knows the back-story. One year ago on Oct. 13, 2006, the Internet poker community was hit hard when the president signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) into law as part of the Secure Ports Act. This misguided and overly restrictive legislation was snuck through at the 11th hour, with little or no review, and was thrust upon U.S. banks and an unsuspecting general public.

Washington, DC (October 1, 2007) – Earlier today, the Department of the Treasury and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System announced the release of a joint proposed rule to implement the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.  While the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) is still fully reviewing the proposed rule a cursory review reveals that the NPRM continues down the misguided path set forth by the Unlawful Internet Gambling and Enforcement Act signed into law last year.  The PPA has released the following statement:
