Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations
This week, I wish to remind those with money on Full Tilt Poker to be sure to submit a claim by November 16th at fulltiltpokerclaims.com. This deadline is approaching fast, so do not miss your chance to get your money back.
I also wish to remind everyone that no one has been denied remission. Even those told by Claims Administrator Garden City Group that they will not be eligible for remission are still eligible to apply and to get a formal determination of their status. In fact, Garden City Group has updated their site accordingly:
|
| No one is prevented from filing a Petition for Remission. If GCG is unable to provide you with a Petition and Control number, you may still file a new Petition by clicking here and then clicking on the “Create a New Petition” button. All Petitions—confirmed, disputed and new—will be reviewed after the filing deadline, using the Department of Justice criteria to determine eligibility for remission. |
|
|
I also wish to share that PPA has been working diligently on behalf of players with balances on Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker.
The remission process in general is based on returning assets seized from fraudsters to their victims. As the Department of Justice has seized little to no assets from UB/AP (outside of separate funds seized from payment processors), the answer to the question on remission has typically been that there are no recovered funds available for this. However, I observed on the Garden City Group website a reference to United States v. PokerStars, et al., 11 Civ. 2564 as its authority for remission. It occurred to me that “et al” could include UB and AP and, fortunately, it turns out that it does (here).
With this, perhaps there is a long-shot approach to seeking remission. I started a discussion thread on 2+2 regarding this: UB/AP claims submission through FTP remission site discussion
Texas Update
The persistent efforts of PPA and the Texas poker community in advocating for legalization of poker in Texas are starting to pay off. PPA is excited to announce that state Senator John Carona, Chairman of the Senate Business and Commerce Committee, has agreed to recommend an interim study on poker to his committee in the upcoming legislative session.
The poker study is the first step toward accomplishing our goal of being able to play poker in Texas. If you live in Texas, please keep an eye on your inbox for more info from our terrific volunteer state director, Matt Allen, on how you can help. Let’s put Texas back in Texas hold’em!

Florida Update
FL State Director Donna Blevins will be attending two of the four public workshops to discuss the Florida Gambling Impact Study, a joint two-part study between the Florida State Senate and House to look at how to make better gaming policy decisions prior to the start of the 2014 regular legislative session.
Please check you inbox for updates and for ways you can help poker in the Sunshine State.
New Hampshire Update
New Hampshire State Representative Tim O’Flaherty has agreed to sponsor a pro-poker bill in the 2014 legislative session. In the meantime, a pre-bill has been introduced, LSR 2014-H-2169, which is currently under review by Legislative Legal Services. The pre-bill would define poker as a game of skill: “Poker shall be considered a game of skill with respect to RSA 647:2″.
We wish to thank activist Kevin Bloom for his efforts to change poker laws in the Granite State. Please keep an eye on your inbox for future updates as this progresses.
