There’s no cash to be won.
The chips are free and each night is as much a social gathering as anything else.
Still, that doesn’t mean the various weekly Texas Hold ’Em poker tournaments in Loveland don’t get tense.
Winning at poker is an investment of time — sitting at a table for three to four hours, studying players, folding bad cards and if all goes right, making the right bets with good hands.
After remaining focused on a game for that long, most people simply want to win.
“Sometimes, it gets a little serious and they forget that it’s just for fun,” said Rod Cochran, owner of Ragin’ Ryan’s bar and restaurant in downtown Loveland with his son, Jeremy Cochran.
