Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations
I have good news to share. Yesterday, the California State Assembly Appropriations Committee unanimously agreed to move AB 431, the bill to license online poker in that state, forward. This comes on the heels of last month’s unanimous vote on this bill in the California Assembly Governmental Operations Committee. The next major step, presuming the various stakeholders come to consensus, is a vote before the full Assembly sometime this summer. In the meantime, we expect informational hearings held jointly by the Assembly and Senate in June and July. While this is great news, there are hurdles ahead. Not all the aforementioned stakeholders are in agreement yet. Interestingly, there is very little opposition to the concept of online poker in the CA legislature. Rather, the fighting is between various pro-poker factions. Fortunately, there has been movement in this area over the past year. We hope this continues, as it makes the most sense for all parties — especially the players. PPA at WSOP
