Breaking News: Internet Gaming Hearing Set for March

Rumors out of Capitol Hill this morning are that the Crime Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on the Chafettz iGaming prohibition bill the first week of March. We will provide additional details soon and we look forward to engaging in a public debate about the folly of H.R. 707.

Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations

Last week, I shared the news that PPA is returning to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). We will have a booth throughout the event, February 26th through the 28th, and will also be hosting an opening night party for CPAC attendees who support liberty and our right to play.

CPAC will be held just outside Washington D.C. at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. The PPA opening night party is at the Pose Ultra Lounge, on the lobby level of the Gaylord National, 7 pm – 9 pm on the 26th. Stop by and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and an open bar with your fellow poker activists. Be sure to bring your CPAC credentials for admittance.

If you are in DC during the event, I hope to see you at the party and the PPA booth! If you cannot make the event, be sure to keep an eye on PPA’s Facebook page and Twitter feed for all the action.

In other poker news, we just saw some very welcome consolidation among stakeholders, with Caesars dropping its opposition to PokerStars’ participation in the market. Given the tough nature of our fight, this combining of forces bodes well for the future of the fight. Hopefully everyone will come together against our common foe, Sheldon Adelson.

Take Action

Make & like pro-poker comments on CA Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s Facebook page. This can be as simple as posting, “Please reconsider your support for efforts to strip California of the right to decide the online poker issue for itself. Thank you,” “I agree. Online poker should be authorized, not banned,” etc.:

Tweet and favorite a pro-poker message or two in reply to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). Either write your own reply (best) or copy & paste one of the following examples (but try to edit even these a bit):

  • Please oppose HR 707, a bill that strips states of their
  • For consumer protection, mandated age verification & liberty, please support the right of states to authorize online poker.
  • Congress rejected instate online poker bans in ’06. HR 707 restores nothing. It’s a new ban. Please oppose HR 707.

Webcast: Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny

On this week’s Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny webcast, I was joined live by poker activists Lori Davenport and Melissa Burr for a panel chat on ongoing efforts to ban online poker and the need for poker pros to step up and encourage the community to take a stand for the game. Be sure to check out Melissa’s Cardplayer Lifestyle article.
