Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations
2015 is shaping up to be the make or break year for online poker in the US, and the stakes get higher with each passing day. Earlier this month, Las Vegas Sands (Venetian, Palazzo and Sands Bethlehem) CEO Sheldon Adelson had a face-to-face meeting with the entire Republican contingent of the House Judiciary Committee. He was actually granted an audience with these important lawmakers to share, in person, specific laws and actions he desires from this Congress!
We are up against a very formidable opponent. We outmaneuvered him in 2014, leaving him to start over this year. That was terrific and very rewarding. I thank everyone who helped make that happen. Now, we poker players and enthusiasts need to redouble our efforts for 2015. Adelson already has.
I ask that you please renew your commitment to PPA and our shared fight right now. If you are already a paid member for 2015, I ask that you consider donating extra to the effort.
Some believe the other guy or gal will join or donate. Others believe everyone on the PPA membership rolls donates every year, when this has never been the case. Many on the membership rolls joined for free to show their support for the poker issue and for organizing as a community. That is terrific, but it’s the players and enthusiasts who contribute financially, along with those who actively advocate for the game, who allow us to fight the fight and to take it to Adelson’s front doorstep.
Take Action
Let’s send pro-poker tweets to eight House Judiciary Committee members, either with the prefilled verbiage as-is or individualized via a quick edit. Verbiage can be as simple as copying & pasting one of the following examples, but try to edit even these a bit. Either way, they take just seconds to send!
- Licensed U.S. online poker sites’ age & identity verification technology keeps underage players off their sites.
- Congress rejected instate online poker bans in 2006. Adelson’s RAWA restores nothing. It’s a new ban. Please oppose RAWA.
Webcast: Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny
On this week’s Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny webcast, I was joined live by WA poker activist Curtis Woodard. Curt is the man behind both the Washington Internet Poker Initiative and HB 1114, a bill that would license online poker in that state. HB 1114 was prefiled for introduction late two weeks ago by state Rep. Sherry Appleton [D-23].
Curt has been on the webcast several times prior, preaching the importance of volunteering and of taking action rather than expecting the next guy or gal to do it for him. You won’t want to miss this week’s show.

Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny airs live Mondays at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on OnTilt Radio. Each show features great guests and the best discussion on poker legislation. Please be sure to tune in every Monday evening at www.ontiltradio.com.
