Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations
Two weeks ago, I shared with you how Las Vegas Sands (Venetian, Palazzo, and Sands Bethlehem) CEO Sheldon Adelson continued his attacks on online poker at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E). Well, just two days ago, former Denver mayor & co-chair of Adelson’s anti-online poker group Wellington Webb penned an op-ed for the Philadelphia Tribune where he referred to online poker players and bettors of other online games as “chumps”. Needless to say, he took a moment to defend bricks-and-mortar casinos. So, in Webb’s (Adelson’s) world, the person parked at a slot machine at the Venetian is a sharp guy/gal, but the skilled online poker player is the chump?
Well, we poker players and enthusiasts are nobody’s chumps. We will not have our liberties stripped from us just because a billionaire doesn’t want the competition. I urge you to take a moment to post a comment to the article. Let the editors and other readers know this article is bought-and-paid-for nonsense. And, if you have not yet, please be sure to join the PPA today!
Webcast: Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny
On this week’s Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny webcast, poker reporter Steve Ruddock joined me for a discussion on his article, “PPA clarifies stance regarding rumored iGaming ban with poker carveout.” This makes Steve Poker Advocacy’s first back-to-back guest! Following my chat with Steve, PPA MN State Director Mike Qualley and awesome activist Lori Davenport joined me for a panel discussion on Steve’s article, Sheldon Adelson, and all things poker. You won’t want to miss this!

PA Lawmakers Tell Congress to Fold
Earlier this week, a bipartisan group of Pennsylvania State House members introduced a symbolic resolution that would tell the U.S. Congress to oppose the proposed federal ban on Internet poker. H.R. 1095 follows in the footsteps of a similar resolution that was recently approved by the New Jersey legislature telling Congress to respect the rights of states to authorize Internet poker.
While introduction of the Pennsylvania measure is more of a symbolic gesture, as the state’s legislative session is set to expire today, we are nonetheless encouraged that state lawmakers are stepping out to defend our interests and the prerogatives of their respective states. PPA issued a release applauding the Pennsylvania bill, which I encourage you to read (here).
Massachusetts Update
Massachusetts members: Please keep an eye on your inbox for an email entitled “Massachusetts Poker Players – Vote ‘NO’, on Question 3” from your state director, Dan Brown. And, of course, please be sure to vote NO on Question 3 on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4th! While PPA is neutral on casino-style gaming, we should all wish to support the new poker rooms that would continue opening with the defeat of Question 3.
