Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations
Last week, I shared with you the news of Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson’s vitriolic anti-online poker Global Gaming Expo (G2E) keynote speech. Make no mistake — Adelson is making good on his threat to spend “whatever it takes” in his quest to ban Internet poker across America. The threat is very real.
I also shared with you the all-new prewritten, fully editable letter to Congress. Many of you sent it out right away, which is not only greatly appreciated…it is absolutely necessary in our fight for our game. For this week, please ask your spouse / significant other, friends, and family to send the letter too. They can send this to their congressman, both of their senators and the president in less than thirty seconds, so please ask them to do their part to make our voices heard! And, if you’ve not yet done so, please send your letter now. It’s that important.
Liberty Political Action Conference (LPAC) Poker Panel Video
As I shared a couple of weeks ago, PPA attended Campaign for Liberty’s annual Liberty Political Action Conference, where PPA Executive Director John Pappas moderated a panel forum on poker. This forum, entitled Why Americans Should Oppose Internet Poker Prohibitions, featured 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Greg “Fossilman” Raymer, Competitive Enterprise Institute fellow Michelle Minton, and Campaign for Liberty Vice President of Policy Norm Singleton. The terrific panel discussion was filled with liberty activists who asked several excellent questions and eagerly participated in our discussion.
I encourage you to take a moment to watch this excellent discussion:

Study Shows Wire Act Never Intended to Apply to Internet Poker
The University of Nevada Las Vegas has published a comprehensive study on the Wire Act of 1961 by Competitive Enterprise Institute fellow Michelle Minton. The focus of the paper, The Original Intent of the Wire Act and Its Implications for State-based Legalization of Internet Gambling, is on the assertion by poker opponents that the Wire Act should be interpreted as a ban on state-based Internet poker and Internet casino gaming.
I encourage you to read this important study here (PDF).
