Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations

PPA Executive Director, John Pappas recently recorded a video, to update members on PPA’s efforts to combat the Sheldon Adelson backed anti-Internet poker bills in Congress. As you know, these bills attempt to establish a national prohibition of Internet poker and would do nothing to protect consumers. The video highlights PPA’s efforts and gives you an insiders’ take on the current political climate. I encourage you to take a moment and watch this video to learn more about the issue and what you can do to help prevent these bad bills from becoming law.

State Directors Reach out to Governors

PPA State Directors across the country have been busy this month sending letters to their governors outlining why they should support licensing and regulating Internet poker in their respected states. As states like Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey reap the benefits of regulation it is important that we remind other state officials that regulation is the best way to protect consumers and eliminate potentially fraudulent operators from the marketplace.

The state director letters urge governors to enact legislation restoring your freedom to play poker online and encourages them to oppose efforts to prohibit Internet poker at the federal and state level. Prohibition will never trump regulation as a way to protect children, problem gamblers, and the average American. It only encourages criminal activity and denies our law enforcement the power to protect residents from fraudulent operators beyond our borders.

Please watch your inbox for more information from your state director and how you can also weigh-in with your governors.

Update on FTP Funds

On May 28th, Garden City Group (GCG) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) updated fulltiltpokerclaims.com with new information about player remission. Within the next few weeks another $15,000,000.00 will be released to approximately 3,500 players. According to the GCG and DOJ this wave of remission will cover petitioner who filed undisputed claims (timely and late) as well as eligible affiliates who filed an undisputed claim. John Pappas spoke earlier this week to his DOJ contacts to inquire about the status of disputed claims. Unfortunately, there is still not a timetable for this remission. According to the DOJ, the Department and GCG continue to go through “volumes” of paperwork that were provided by players with disputed claims. They gave Pappas assurances that they are working on these claims and that this latest announcement means that more time and resources can be dedicated to their resolution. GCG and DOJ expect to provide an update to the affected players this summer. We will continue to communicate with DOJ and share our information with you.
