Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations

Next Tuesday, December 10th, the House Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee (a subcommittee of the House Energy & Commerce Committee) will hold a hearing on online poker and online casino-style gaming. The hearing webcast will be available at http://energycommerce.house.gov.

The hearing, entitled The State of Online Gaming, will “examine the current regulatory landscape for online gaming after the Department of Justice’s reinterpretation of the Wire Act.” The subcommittee will review H.R. 2666, Rep. Joe Barton’s Internet Poker Freedom Act. And, of course, PPA has been invited as a witness.

Unlike some past hearings to license online poker, this one will be hotly contested. As I have been sharing over the past several weeks, Venetian Resort, Hotel & Casino parent Las Vegas Sands Corp. and its CEO, Sheldon Adelson, are lobbying hard for state and federal bans on online poker (and online casino gaming as well). They will be at the hearing in full force, opposing our right to play at every turn. So, needless to say, it’s time to act!

Please be sure to follow and participate in the Poker Daily Action Plan. Today’s action includes respectfully sharing our support for poker on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chair Lee Terry’s Facebook page (here). Please also visit the PPA Take Action Page and be sure to send the prewritten letters to your lawmakers. It takes just thirty seconds. And, if you reside in a committee member’s district, keep an eye on your inbox for more actions you can take to help make the hearing a success.

Webcast: Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny

The Poker Advocacy with Rich Muny webcast airs live each Monday at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on OnTilt Radio. For this week’s show, I was joined by PPA Executive Director John Pappas for the Season 3 premiere. We had an in-depth discussion of Sheldon Adelson’s efforts to ban online poker, New Jersey online poker, the state of the fight, and what we can do as players to win this.

If you missed the live webcast, I hope you will listen to or download the free podcast and check it out. It is available as a directly downloadable MP3 file (right-click to save, left click to listen) or as a free iTunes download.

Each show features great guests and the best discussion on poker legislation. Please be sure to tune in each Monday evening for the live webcast!
