Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations

I have great news. Late yesterday afternoon, the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Insurance announced a hearing on Internet poker and Internet casino-style gaming. The hearing, entitled “The Expansion of Internet Gambling: Assessing Consumer Protection Concerns,” is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17th at 10:00 a.m. ET.

We will post information as it becomes available. Please be sure to keep an eye on theppa.org for updates on this important hearing.

Take Action

Let’s be sure to take action to lay the groundwork for a successful hearing. If you use Twitter, please take a moment to send a prefilled, editable poker tweets to each subcommittee member, either all at once or a few per day:

PPA at the WSOP

PPA Director of Membership & PokerPAC Bryan Spadaro, Member Relations Specialist Dave McGoldrick, and I were at World Series of Poker™ this past weekend, where we met with many poker players and activists regarding the latest in the push for Internet poker legislation, all PPA is doing, and what poker players and enthusiasts can do to support the fight for poker.

It was a terrific weekend. I was very happy to have had the opportunity to discuss the fight with so many wonderful players and activists.

Bryan Spadaro and me

While in town, I attended the PocketFives party at the Gold Coast Bowling Center on July 5th and the Two Plus Two annual party at South Point Casino, which featured a screening of the online poker documentary BET RAISE FOLD, on July 6th. Both events were wonderful, and everyone had a fun time. I am a longtime participant and moderator on both forums, so meeting everyone face-to-face to discuss the advocacy effort and to encourage participation was just great.
