Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations

In the wake of the Justice Department announcement on their interpretation of the scope of the Wire Act as not including online poker, some of the groups that pushed for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 are now asking Congress to pass legislation to ban all online poker! Please take a moment to read their letter to House Speaker John Boehner here.

It is clear that we had better all speak up today and ensure that our elected representatives hear from us. To be frank, anyone who does not participate is allowing these groups to claim that they speak for them. Don’t let them speak for you!

Let’s all send the PPA prewritten, fully editable letter to Congress and the White House HERE and to state lawmakers HERE (or click the buttons below) via email AND snail mail. As snail mail to Congress typically takes around one month for delivery (due to security checks), the timing works out for us to send these now.

This all takes less than 60 seconds! Again, it is very important that our elected representatives know we demand our right to play, so let’s all send these out now.

The good news is that there is a silver lining to all of this. After all, where there is a threat, there is opportunity, and this is no exception! This anti-poker letter will increase the attention to this issue even further. Lawmakers will be checking this week to gauge support for a ban versus support for licensing, so our letters will play a vital role there. As PPA and other poker interests have lobbyists working Capitol Hill, these efforts will have a great synergy.

So, let’s all do our part!

On another note, PPA Director of Grassroots and External Affairs Drew Lesofski, PPA FL State Director Donna Blevins, and I are in Tampa, FL today to kick off the PPA Town Hall meeting tour. We will be in Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow for a town hall meeting there as well. We are all looking forward to meeting everyone in person at these meetings. I hope everyone who can make it will join us for a great evening at one of the town halls!
