The debate over internet gambling has raged since the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was ushered through Congress in the fall of 2006.
Swept to passage in the middle of the night by former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, the UIGEA sent the industry into turmoil. The new law caused major online poker rooms to exit the U.S. market. Players’ money was frozen for months and executives of gambling industry firms that are lawful in their own nations were arrested in ours’. It was a dark day for online poker enthusiasts everywhere.
Since then, concerned online poker players around the country have asked themselves how they can work together to bring back the game they love as a legalized and regulated form of entertainment in the United States. The answer is simple: Register to vote.
