GUADALUPE COUNTY — Nearly a dozen people at two local underground poker parlors have been issued citations for illegal gambling in the wake of a months-long undercover investigation by county officials.

Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Investigator Lt. Kevin Jordan said sheriff’s deputies, Department of Public Safety troopers and investigators who work for County Attorney Elizabeth Murray-Kolb raided a home adjacent to the San Antonio Raceway Friday night in Marion and shut down an illegal poker game, issuing 11 misdemeanor citations.

It was only a matter of time before the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) became involved in the Republican National Convention (RNC), which kicks off on September 1st at the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At the RNC, the PPA will be reaching out to members of Congress who have historically not been friendly to legalized internet gambling in the United States. The Republican Party led the charge to pass the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in 2006 and, at a recent hearing, forced the law’s ambiguity to continue. This time around, the PPA has partnered with the American Gaming Association (AGA) to benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

MOUNT PLEASANT — Five “Texas Hold ‘em” poker players fighting gambling tickets from an April 2006 police raid finally get to argue that their case should be tossed out.

South Carolina’s anti-gambling laws are unconstitutional and unenforceable, they contend, and will ask a municipal court judge Friday to dismiss the case outright.
