Like many of today’s top poker players, Matt Glantz has a background in stock trading. And that experience is priceless for players like Glantz who know how to properly transfer the skills it takes to succeed in finance to poker.

Matt Glantz was born and raised in Lafayette Hill, PA in a family where education was a top priority. Glantz grew up pursuing games, sports, and anything that stoked his competitive and risk taking drive.

True to his commitment to education, Glantz graduated from Temple University in 1992 with BAs in Finance and International Business Administration. He continued his education at Temple, earning an MBA in Finance in 1993. While still at school, he took a an entry level clerical position with Timberhill,a large derivatives trading firm, and within 6 months was promoted to trade options on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange.. Within two and a half years, Glantz was trading independently and over the next ten years built a business which had up to ten traders working on four trading floors nationally.

In 2002, the trading business changed dramatically and Glantz decided to get out of that business. At that point he looked to poker, a game with many similarities to trading. Glantz had played as a hobby while still trading. He started off playing mainly cash games in Atlantic City one or two Saturdays each month though he did dabble in tournaments, placing 2nd in a $500 LHE event at the U.S. Poker Championships in Atlantic City in 1999 and cashing in the World Series of Poker in 2000 (read more).
