In light of the recent activity concerning online gaming, I feel we will start to see an uprising in membership numbers here. I for one see this as an assault on the game, regardless of where it is played. Let's utilize some of the technology we have (i.e Facebook, Twitter, etc) to begin spreading the word to casual players as well. Most people do support our right to play and wager as we wish, it is time to get them on our side. As I'm sure you all already have, write your lawmakers, but encourage your friends (even that don't play) to do so as well. More is at stake here than just the blinds.

If that 5 line press release from the PAA is all that this organization can say about what happened today there is no reason to join. Al D'Amato is as bad here as he was as a Senator.

From my understanding, the companies committed fraud to circumvent the law. There's not much that the PPA can say. Maybe someone here can help me figure this out, though...
The act/law that made online poker illegal was the UIGEA portion of the Safe Port act, correct? The term "unlawful Internet gambling" apparently wasn't even defined in the act according to wikipedia. Also in this act, the institutions whom are punished AREN'T the poker sites, but the banks (for allowing the transfer of funds)...correct? With those 3 things being said...shouldn't fraud be the only thing these companies be charged with?
And after writing that, I don't see what the big deal was with UIGEA going into effect in the first place...other than banks blocking funds from fear of prosecution...which is what led to these sites doing what they did. However, if the poker sites DIDN'T mislead the banks, they would get no business and would also never have their day in court (because the middle man -the banks- wouldn't allow deposits to, or withdrawals from, the poker sites)...right?
It all seems like one giant, deliberate mindfuck. Is this essentially what's going on, or is there a simpler explanation?
I hope this made enough sense for somebody to see what I'm getting at.

I for one can't believe the FBI is shutting down these sites, I wish they would just regulate the game online and they would make 3 billion a year with out all of the BS. As an American I personally don't appreciate the FBI saying to me that I can't play poker (a skill game not gambling) online with my own hard earned money, this tramples on the Constitution. I mean keep the kids off, regulate it, create jobs and pull revenue off of it. I don't see them shutting down the lottery, or chess websites etc. PPA political action committee ...what are we doing?

Personal feeling -- legality of poker is only one of the questions to be answered -- even if the UIGEA portion of the charges were completely dismissed, the evidence provided for the other charges would probably be pretty difficult to lawyer your way out of. I don't think without all the other charges, there's even much of a case.
