    All,
I want to form an organization to put pressure on SC lawmakers to pass State Bills 535 and 628 legalizing homegames in SC. I'm looking for support from PPA members in SC with over 10,000 of us there is no reason that we can not get these laws passed. I have reach out to the PPA before forming this organization wanting their support and "blessing" for the lack of a better word. Is this something that you as SC poker players support?

I will be happy to be part of any such organization. I have recently spoken with a couple of legislators regarding these bills. I have been informed that they are a "long way from becoming law." Thus, I think forming a group to reach out to the legislators in our respective districts with a unified message is a great idea.

I actually own the domain names scpokerplayers.org and scpokerplayers.com. I am hoping to be able to create a forum type website if the legislation passes, but I am not using the domains for anything at this time. I am willing to use one or both for any effort to expand the play of poker in SC.

Please let me know what I can do to help.

    Buddy,
So you’re the one that owns scpokerplayers.com I started buying up poker domains a few weeks ago with the plan to get Myrtle Beach players together. I own the following
    MBPokerPlayers.com
    MBPokerPlayersAlliance.com & org
    SCPokerPlayersAlliance.com & org
    TheSCPPA.com & org
    MBPPA.com & org
    TheDonkeyHomeGame.com (my favorite)
I don’t know when I will get the site up but building it is my plan. I truly believe that we can get this bill passed if we can organize the players we have within the state. Do you know who the PPA state director is?
Once we get home games legal I would love to use one or all of the sites for a forum/home game directory and just a place for players to get together.
    Where are you located?

I like the Donkey Home Game domain. I purchased mine with the idea of trying to create a place wher sc poker players could go and exchange information, but everyone seems to think they have to act under the cover of darkness. I do not personally know the SC state director. I think we may have exchanged an email or two, but not certain. It has been awhile if we have.

I have spoken with one of Senator McConnell's staff attorneys that worked on the bills. She is optimistic about the bills passing, but advised that if I am in the camp that wants expansion of poker in SC to the point of allowing poker rooms, I probably would not be in favor of passage. She said the bill will allow home games, but the compromise is that the penalties for engaging in any other forms of gaming that are deemed illegal will be increased substantially. Thus, I am conflicted because I want to be able to have a home game without fear of law enforcement raiding the game and putting my mug on the front page of the newspaper, but I really want gambling in all forms legalized in SC and I want a row of first class casinos stretching from Little River to Hilton Head. Dare to dream, huh?

    Buddy,
First off where are you in the state?
I'm with you as far as the casinos go. I personally would prefer "poker rooms" legalized to where I could play with different folks and not have to invite strangers into my home. My thought is we work on the home games and then move to the poker room scenario as far as casino I don’t think we will ever see that day. I became involved because I love playing but work with local government and public safety and don’t think getting busted for a home game would be a good career move. I feel like the current laws only stop people like me. If it weren’t for my job I would be hosting a local game now.
I find it hard to believe that most of the Senator s are being elected with more than a few thousand votes so I feel confident that the 10,000 PPA members alone could get the home games legalized not to mention what we could do with the non member support.
My vision is a site like the PPA with both paying and nonpaying memberships, a forum for communicating and “score cards” on each Senator in the state show where they stand along with the info of how many votes they received how much they won by. I think being able to email all the Senators at the same time from the site would be great. A weekly news letter with membership stats sent to our elected officials (only if the site is successful) I would like to sale hats, shirts, stickers take donations and use those funds for media such as bill boards and ads.
We can do this if we can get the word out about the site but the site alone won’t get it done we need people to become active.

I have rambled long enough feel free to email me if you have any thoughts or input for the site.
