    Hi,

As for the SDNY case going on in NY, is that an implication that NY players should refrain from playing online poker till further notice or what?

Please advise. I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

I can't speak for the PPA, nor can I give you advice. To tell you the truth, I don't really know much about the case in Southern District of New York. But if I was making casual conversation, here is what I would say.

The action filed in SDNY was federal, not state, so the case is ambivalent to whether or not you are in New York. The action taken was against a payment processor, not a poker player, so it may not affect you directly.

The best implication I can draw from the event is that this does not color your ability to play, but you might want to refrain for asking for a check for your winnings. But wait, there is more...

Apparently the poker rooms affected have reissued payments. So while the money is still missing, the players all got paid, just with a delay.

A recent development this week is that one of the payment processors sued to get their seized money back. We will see what happens.

Have fun at the poker table.

    Hi,

My concern is that if I were to win a monetary prize of some magnitude in a tourney, will I be able to withdraw its monies afterwards? Thanks!

The answer is yes. The answer is also, it depends.

For years people have been withdrawing money from poker rooms. For years various delays have occurred due to the unclear gray legal climate. But to my knowledge, everyone has gotten their money in the past.

The possibly illegal action of the government in the SDNY case was specific to a particular withdrawal method for two or so poker rooms. So, if you did not use the affected poker rooms (Full Tilt, Pokerstars) and the specific withdrawal method (physical check I think) you were not affected. Since then these poker rooms have moved on and are likely processing payments in a normal fashion. (I actually don't play at either)

I once had to wait about eight weeks or so to get paid, even after being told several times my check had gone out. But that was a couple of years ago. I did get all of my money, though it was a different poker room.
