I'm not quite sure if this is the right avenue, but I'd like to do something about the PPA logo. The website is modern and nice, but the logo feels like something someone drew for a t-shirt in the 90s. I am a very amateur graphic designer, but I think I could contribute. Here's one I made today:

If this isn't the appropriate place, please email me. Thanks.

In some ways I like this logo better (it certainly is more instantly recognizable and stands out from a distance).

In other ways I like the first logo (it has that poker chip look that is "freindly").

Anyway, I would like to hear what everyone else thinks. Chime in .....

I like the OP's concept. I'd move the spade down a bit, but otherwise it looks quite nice. I sent it to PPA.

Here it is with the spade nudged down:

I don't like the spade lowered, the negative space of the A doesn't match the negative space in the P. I do agree that the crossbar of the A in my current one is too thick however, so I'll fix that.

I hope you sent it just so it could be evaluated, and not to be used for anything. I have a SVG with all the original information that should be used for print and web.

I'll admit it graphics and art are not my thing. But I have a question. What difference will the lopo make? FWIW I changed to this one just for kicks.

  6. Line the bottom of the spade, with the bottom of the cross on the lower curve of the P.

I like both. I'd also put this as a window sticker in the back of my car. It would also look way more obvious. Perhaps the "POKER PLAYERS ALLIANCE" should be slightly larger. Also something about the "O" in Poker in that font really bothers me, but I can't seem to put my finger right on it.

I do have the existing window sticker in the back of my car (just put it in there before we travelled across the state) However, it is too small for anyone to even notice it.

    Dear Patrick ("Skallagrim"),

I am a member of the PPA, as well as a member of the Tournament Director's Association (TDA), and am a graphic designer in the Washington DC area. You can contact me directly at the email address included regarding graphic design ideas relating to the logo or other graphic projects you might have. I will try to think about a new PPA logo and submit it here for your review. Looking forward to hearing from you directly soon.

  8. Honestly, i'd like to post this on the window of our card room. I don't think the charitable gaming group would like that, though.

The poker chip logo provides an icon as well as being a logo; I 'vote' for sticking with the original. The problem with using big letters PPA - is that the PPA is also the Professional Photographer's Association, which is a big organization and has been around many years. The current PPA logo - Poker Players Alliance, does not invoke the photographer's association as it is, whereas the logo 'anyhero' suggested does.

My father was a professional photographer and member of the PPA for many years, so I automatically think of it when I see PPA - especially in big, bold letters. Stick with the poker chip, and the spelling out of Poker Player's Alliance. I have had many people comment on the t-shirt I wear I got with my membership. Thanks for allowing my input.

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance uses "PPA" as well (they air a lot of commercials -- Montel Williams is their spokesperson). So, it seems there is value in keeping our full name prominently in the logo.
