Not being an officer of the court, I don't have much weight in my opinion here, but I'd say that it's generally not illegal to make a deposit to a poker site.

Someone else might suggest it depends on what state you live in. There is no federal law against playing poker. The UIGEA created no new illegalities, so making a deposit is apparently not illegal under federal law.

However some states, maybe 13 of them, have made playing online poker a crime, or maybe a crime. But it seems to me if they have made poker illegal, they apparently failed to make deposits illegal.

Of course with the recent seizure of instant e-check accounts, with the claim of money laundering - putting money in the account may not be illegal but does not necessarily exempt you from being pulled into criminal legal actions.

But what brings me to the keyboard is the question in my own mind of what does it take for a law to be "unconstitutionally vague"? I suspect the original poster's question stemmed not from the "money laundering" implications, but rather from the impression that the UIGEA makes poker deposits illegal.

I'd say the UIGEA does not make poker deposits illegal.

But here we have a man, n0tconfigur3d, asking the question - and this is no ordinary mortal, but rather a man of formidable accomplishments that make him l33t - asking the question because he is confused. If the l33t among us do not understand, how are us mere mortals to figure out what the law says?

I've seen news reports making claims as to these new things the UIGEA makes illegal. I've seen our congresscritters in (e)mail responses to constituents and public statements lay claim to the new found illegalities.

What does it take for the UIGEA to fail the test and be declared "unconstitutionally vague?" It comes as no surprise to me that our congresscritters cannot understand the laws they create, but if the l33t among us are confused, there where are we mere mortals to stand?
