  1. Hey All Maryland PPA members!
Things have been pretty quiet around here, I would suggest that we get together and try to get things moving on the poker front in Maryland. With any luck we will have poker legalized soon, what does it mean to us?
I can't think of a better social forum the a friendly home poker game. No big stakes or anything. I would be happy to host this, I live in central MD, near Glen Burie. Let me know your thoughts.

Firstly the PPA is in the process of obtaining a stste director and that should come soon. Secondly, lets be for real here The PPA is not in business to defend everyone who has been charged with a poker related crime. They have to defend people who are involved in cases with 'precedent setting potential'. We have a problem in this state, and I'm not sure exactly how to solve it. The gambling laws are mainly controlled locally therefore a poker game that's illegal in PG,AA or Balt Co is perfectly legal on the other side of the bay bridge or in southern maryland. The only way to really address the issue is to attack each county separately and then go to the state level.
That is a definite uphill battle because certain counties claim that any type of gambling is 'evil'.
Look at the battle there was here for slots. Anyone who truly knows and understands gambling in the state (and isn't a politican)realized long ago that the time for slots has passed. Any Maryland resident can drive a max of 1 1/2 hours to play in either WVA, DE, or PA. Everytime I go to Atlantic City and sit at a poker table there is at least one other Maryland resident at the table with me and at least 4 or 5 others in the room. Not to mention the numerous people who have travelled from Virginia, North and South Carolina to gamble. The state of maryland should have passed casino legislation.
To get back to my original point, no one cares if we play online in maryland but certain counties don't want us playing live and that is what we need to fight, one county at a time. I live in PG and also play poker there, and I will tell you that we (poker players) have to come out of the shadows and work this issue in force. Not in the courts, but in the county council chambers.

  5. I couldnt have said it any better.!!! When do you want to start!!! The problam with md is the dem and rep both want to take credit for passing the bills!!! We need to take a stance and say we dont care who does it just pass it!!!! We have to get the poker players to make it a issue. If they dont support poker in there county/state there out. Thats a lot of people and a long fight. Can it be done i say yes. The question is how many people will make poker there issue. I know alot of poker players in md and i say its time to work towards our goals. Who is in!!!
