HB 222 passed through House Committee 6-3 yesterday with some stipulations.. I am still trying to understand what it is they added but from what I am gathering, the communities will hold elections(Nov. 9th.??) whether or not to let poker rooms exist in their communities.. Mike maybe you can chime in about this and clear the smoke..

Will this have an affect on timeframe for the legal poker rooms??

I emailed Rep. Menendez' office today and here is the response I received..

HB222 will be amended on the floor of the House to provide for a favorable local (county) referendum on allowing poker rooms in qualifying establishments, before an application can be submitted to the Lottery Commission for consideration. All other conditions of the substituted bill remain the same. Thank you for your interest.

I would like to applaude the efforts of everyone, especially Mr. Levigne, for the progress made in Texas. As for me, and given the state of the law in Louisiana, I think I'm just going to resort to a good old fashioned, bare knuckle fight in the courtroom. We'll see.

I have been playing in poker rooms in TX for years. Not legal but there are some good honest rooms. I quit playing in the rooms about a year ago because of them getting raided and everybody getting their chips taken and pretty hefty fines handed down. If the would just legalize it and collect the tax money.......... That is all the raids are about anyway. The law wants their cut.

  5. Aye, my experiences with the legal system tell me that for the most part, it is mostly there to create revenue, rather than to actually keep the peace.
