Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me because I don't know if I need to be filing as a pro or not. I made 57k through online poker in 2008 and had a job through Americorps for 8 months out of the year, making 7k. How am I supposed to figure out if I need to file as a pro or not? It makes a difference with the SE tax but I'm just not sure how to file.

Sorry, the one thing I am definitely NOT qualified to give is tax advice.

About the only thing I can tell you is that the decision to file as a pro or not is yours; only in very unusual circumstances will the IRS insist you file as a pro (or declare you cannot).

You will need to seek tax advice from a local CPA who can advise you as to which method of filing is best for you.
