In a court case this last week involving players "busted" for participation in a poker game hosted by a local bar in Greeley, one player was acquitted by a jury of the charge of illegal gambling. While this was not a precedent setting case, it was significant in that it recognized poker as something other than "gambling" as set forth in the Colorado Statutes. Notice to the CBI and others law enforcement agencies intent on harassing people involved in the game we support – you will see more and more of this as attorney’s and their clients become more adept at proving poker is a game of skill not unlike Chess, Bridge or Golf. All games played for money and recognized as “skill” games by the AG of Colorado. Poker will not be on the list of “banned” games much longer.

I am looking for the news reports on this. Can we get Mr. Raley on Mike Rosen's show? Here is the original article.

As the defendant in the case I want to publicly thank the PPA for their assistance in my case. I trully believe the expert testimony provided by Dr. Hannum from DU played a role in the jury's decision.
There are more defendants with cases still pending from this same arrest, so at this time because of potentialy affecting a jury pool for them, now is not the right time to discuss the details of the case on Mike Rosen's show. I was just the first and this has really been a group thing all along, so lets wait a bit, and we could all appear as a group perhaps.

Thanks for the kind words Cytoviper.
The PPA is here to help all poker players with legal issues, its why the Litigation Support Network was created. Although most of the effort still needs to go to politics and legislation, litigation is an important part of the overall fight. Every win like this one makes it that much easier to get good legislation passed for openly legal poker.
Keep up the good fight all of you, and don't hesitate to contact us when you need us.

Well done all!
There's a good article on the case at http://www.9news.com/rss/article.aspx?storyid=108829 . It made the front page of Digg, at http://digg.com/world_news/Colorado_...poker_is_skill .
Definition clears man of gambling charges
FORT COLLINS - When Windsor resident Kevin Raley started helping to organize friendly poker tournaments in a Greeley bar, he never thought he'd end up in court facing charges of illegal gambling.

.
The national Poker Players Alliance helped Raley, a software consultant, mount his defense, paying for an expert witness to testify that poker is a game of skill, not chance.
.
.
.
The PPA's expert, professor Robert Hannum of the University of Denver, testified that poker isn't dependent primarily on chance but on each player's skill. Hannum is a professor of statistics and is the author of the book "Practical Casino Math." ...Posted 1 year ago # -
