Hello Gov. Beshear`s my name is David I was born here in ky . my mom, dad all my family is from a small town called Pineville Ky we have over 100 years of roots here and I am writing to you to just to set things right for what you are doing is wrong. Gov.Beshear I am 45 and ever since I was about 16 years old I can remember people like you doing ky people wrong. So what I am saying to you is (Quit) trying to take everything away from the people I mean how does it hurt you for people to have a little fun playing poker online. Please tell me I would love to know as would about half of ky!! I know you say it hurts horse racing but thats not true you know it and so do I. So let's get down to the facts ok or do you make money from horse betting? I do not know but eather way the truth is online poker has not effected horse racing in any kind of way!!! You know here in pineville there is nothing I mean it has no skating rinks no malls you can not drank here it is dry and let's be real you would not live here ok!! So why would you even try to take something that does not do anything to you do you think ky people in ky are not smart enuff to decide if they want to play online or not? Do you think you have the right to just take the freedom of the internet away from the people? I guess you can take our freedom away and mabey we are stupid we voted you in !! So I guess we can blame ourselves for what is now going on here but we can change the fact that we vote you in next election!! It is because of people like you we can not even buy a beer here. Here it has been voted wet for the last two years but the reason you still can not buy a beer here is people like you who do not respect others rights or wishs. You types only want what will pay you so I have come to think as alot of people here have if you guys are not getting paid you will try to do everything you can to control it.So I have made this my pet project to find out who is paying you!!!!! So be sure you are not cought with your hands in the cookie jar for I will not give up. If you try to say it is because of gambling addiction than you need to outlaw horse betting also. For we have a off betting track here it is the same as online bitting no malls no beer no skating rinks but off track betting wow!! So (QUIT) ok leave the people's rights alone. They are smart enuff to think! And we do not need a money hungry governor stealing our rights!!!!! Copys of this letter will be sent to every news show I can think of. You have started something you should have stayed out of but you wanted that cash so now I am going to keep digging till I find out why you want to stop ky people from playing online games.Governor I am going to digg up every skeleton in your family has ever had.So I hope you are ready you will hear from me again soon YOU-CAN-BET-ON-IT!!!!!SIGNED David E Smith

You've got a couple of grammatical errors, but a very nice letter nonetheless. I sent him one, too, but unfortunately didn't save it to post here. I'd have loved to have seen the Gov's face when he opened his e-mail. He got nearly 2000 letters from angry Kentuckians (plus who-knows-how-many from others like myself outside the state). I wonder how many people wrote to tell him what a great idea this was?

Maybe none. I've heard of no one supporting this. Not FoF....not the Kentucky churches. No one. The gaming opponents see this as protectionism for other gaming, which hasn't appealed to them, especially as Beshear is a big proponent of casino legalization. Gaming enthusiasts are certainly not supporting this. Even people who love horses see this as problematic, as Beshear made it clear that his ultimate goal is increased tax revenue.
