I was wondering what is the exact rule if you live in America and you want to play Online Poker are you allowed to pay for the service? On another note can you receive the payment to your address in America?

I would like to know the biggest thing thats holding back players from playing online poker? Is it the fact they can't make the payment online or receive the payment which one is the biggest setback?

    Tony,
check out my earlier post. I feel the besides the banks, it is how reliable is the poker site. I have had checks sent to me with no problem. One site took less than 2 weeks to get the money to me.

  3. there is no law against playing online poker, unless you reside in the state of Washington. Banks are not permitted under UIGEA to allow "online gambling" transactions.

They are trying to make it difficult on us - however there are easy ways to get money on/off line within 48 hours. FTP & Stars are very reliable! I would not suggest playing on any site that offers any games outside of poker or any sports wagering..

Whoops kidkash, Illinois also has a pretty clear provision against playing online poker. And in Louisiana, the complexity of their statutes makes it an open question as to whether it covers online poker players or not. There are also provisions in NJ and NV against playing that are unenforced and almost certainly unconstitutional (as the 3 cited above may be too).

No statute makes it a crime for a player to deposit or withdraw money at an online poker site. The UIGEA (if it applies to poker) covers only sites that accept money and financial service providers who make transfers to sites.

It is the financial service providers who are making things difficult (although a few did so only after being directly threatened by the Government). Most are so scared of being found in violation of the law that they will not touch anything, deposits or withdrawals, that look remotely related to online gambling. A few options still exist, but they are getting fewer and fewer each day.

You must have had a different experience than many of us. FTP has had many problems with cash withdrawals since UIGEA and the exodus of many e-wallets from the US market that came after it. Last time I withdrew (less than two months ago), it took about 6 weeks for an electronic transfer to go through (it was only $500). I haven't tried their paper check option because I read in a forum that some people had problems with bounced checks; last thing I need is to be having to pay bounced check fees to my bank. I'm not a professional player, so I don't rely on this income and am content for now to just leave my money in there (I deposited before UIGEA and have not needed to make more deposits since) and keep playing (they do provide a great playing experience outside of the withdrawal problems), but I can see how this could definitely hold people back from playing. I don't have first hand experience with Stars, but I've heard they've also had problems, although perhaps less severe.

Is this old news? Have they resolved these issues and I just don't know about it? I would love to be proven wrong on this one.

Just a few days ago I received a credit from PStars because they had caught two players colluding. The players accounts were closed, they were banned, and those that played against them were given credit to their accounts. I'm not sure if further action will be taken, but I'm happy that they were able to catch these guys. There will always be someone trying to beat the system regardless of which site you play at. I'm pleased when the site catches the bad guys, but disheartened that these kind of people put a blemish on the perceived character of the game when it should be only their character called into question.

  7. machetero, Since 2002 I have had every experince there is to have lol. I too had an electronic deposit take 6 weeks to arrive however I knew what the circamstances were and was aware that FTP was doing everything they could to get me my money. I also went through the neteller crisis.

FTP/Stars has recovered from that debacle and have some good systems now to get money dispursed. So yeah it's kinda old news...
