We met before one of Joe's games and I am writing a report of past business and the action items for the next 30 days, when we will have our next meeting. There were about 10 members that showed up, which is up from 4 the last time.
Old Business:
State Director Gary Reed's report: He has distributed flyers to the poker rooms in Blackhawk. He also met with members in regions 2 and 3 in order to get assistant directors for those regions. He also talked with Rep. Tupa, but has not talked with the backers of the proposed gaming initiative that will raise gaming limits. He plans to talk with them. He stated that the total Colorado members are in excess of 13,800 and that there were 54 responses to the blast email for volunteers. He will send the list of volunteers to Andy and Joe for inclusion in our org efforts. He is in the process of setting up the Colorado arm of the PPA with an attorney. He has collected about $50 for the new entity.
Action Items: These are the immediate tasks that we will accomplish by the next meeting, to be held in 30 days.
1. Email contact info to Andy for the region 1 database.
2. Everyone will contact the congressional campaigns for their district to see if they will release a statement on gaming, poker and online gaming. No advocacy, just a statement. Those stmts will be forwarded to Andy and Gary.
3. Bar tour distribution of flyers. Joe will set up a meeting with Brian Masters and Gary will join him. Our goal is for Brian to instruct his dealers to mention the PPA prior to the tourneys. Brent also knows a minor tour operator and will talk to him.
4. Gary will set up the Colorado organization.
5. Gary will send the list of volunteers to Joe & Andy.
6. Joe will contact the operator of the coloradonolimit.com website to invite him to our next meeting. Joe contacted him prior to this meeting, but he was not able to attend. Cross linking will be suggested.
7. Ten new members should be the goal of everyone each month. We all play in different games and we meet at least that number each month. We can go viral by recruiting new members who will spread the word to other games.
8. Post in the Colorado forum so that we can get more ideas rolling. Communication is important to show everyone that we are moving forward, evern if we have to walk before we run.
Here are some talking points when discussing poker or about the PPA.
1. Poker is not a crime. There are no federal criminal statutes that criminalize poker.
2. Poker is a skill game. If someone disputes that point, heads up for rolls.
3. Poker is my own choice and I am an adult. I am not a problem gambler and I help those that are find help.
In summary, it was a good meeting and we are going to need a bigger venue fro the next one.
