nice going ppa between you and crooked politicians you have succeeded probably in killing live-action poker in California and the rest of United States by getting this bill passed they contend they were employee some 32,000 people that is a damn lie and they know it

like poker in the United States employs over 44,000 people with middle to upper income wages now Internet poker will be stationed on Indian reservations with no protection whatsoever to the players the same as now and the 32,000 jobs which is BS if there is any jobs created they will be outsourced to Asia countries to help us at all

I cannot believe the only bill those idiots could come to an agreement on by bupartisans is this one don't know how much harras casinos paid those dumb assholds thinking they would get the own license in the United States what idiots

and the California clubs set on their ass thinking they would get a license and let this bill go through again thanks a lot you FN idiots for killing like poker

cheating on the Internet poker is rampied full tilt, and absolute and the rest of one of which I worked for four years cheat customers by using bots which I was one of never let a player ever win a guarantee tournament when first place was over $5000 the site I work for would let players win second thirds and so forth and always except seldom did they ever give up first place

this is going to happen to the players that play on the US sites too. The players that help get this passed deserves what's going to happen to them.

    I guess punctuation is overrated.

Internet poker was alive and strong before this bill was introduced, and the live action game is perhaps stronger now than it ever has been. Explain how the live action game is getting killed? There will always be people like me that much prefer the live action game over the Internet game, and will continue to play in the live environment. Live poker rooms, where legal, are not going away in light of the online game.

I'm sure this gentleman has a point in there somewhere. First he argues against online poker, then bashes live poker, then bashes ????? Rants like this are an embarrassment to poker players and PPA members. Illogical, ill conceived, poorly thought out and even more poorly delineated. Bad spelling and lack of grammatical thought do not constitute an argument.
Online poker in the U.S. will allow oversight. It will allow the policing and open records that would eliminate bots and the cheating we all know goes on within some online sites based offshore. It would not be based on Indian reservations nor would it be banned from them. They might/could/should be players in the online sites soon to spring up in the U.S. but if you don’t trust them, don’t play them.
As to killing live poker? No way. If anything, it will open poker up to thousands of people who might like to give it a try, but are afraid of the live poker rooms or are too intimidated by them to actually sit down and play. After risking a few dollars online, they will have the confidence and skill to give live poker a try. This goof’s argument would lead one to believe that playing NFL football on a gameboy will kill live NFL games. What a concept.

  5. Always remember:

    Punctuation is important.

    "Let's eat, Grandma!"

    vs

    "Let's eat Grandma!"

I've read the OP twice and still am not sure I understand what is being suggested. I considered editing the OP to remove the bold and make it more readable, but I think that might detract from people's perception on the quality of his posting.

So let's assume for the moment that OtherDoyle's basic point is absolutely correct. I think he is saying that poker players find online poker so much more enjoyable than live poker that live poker will be abandoned in favor of the online stuff.

you have succeeded probably in killing live-action poker

I'm not saying this is in anyway true, but let's assume it is. Then what comes to mind is the concept of libraries versus web pages. I think of my old friend the encyclopedia as opposed to Wikipedia. Or better yet, the failing newspapers versus new media.

Not that I think that live poker is going away, but OtherDoyle is advancing an argument for protectionism of a failing industry. His argument is that players like online poker so much better than live poker we have to rise up to defend the B&M casinos.

Yes. And I want the stores to stock my 8-track tapes too.

In the long run I may never choose online poker over live games. Just as I might never choose VHS movies at home over the wonders of the drive-in.

Of the many flaws of the current bill, I can't agree that we need to protect a failing industry that no one wants. Nor do I agree that B&M poker is failing.

  7. Live poker is a social thing. Online poker is something you do alone.

Sort of like one of the big differences between sex and masturbation.

    (i can't believe i just said this)

    I disagree with you Eric.

I could state that going to the malt shoppe is a social thing and that texting is something you do alone.

I've merely replaced your nouns. We live in a world where the virtual is supplanting the live in-person experience. For some it is an evolution, for others it is a different experience.

I have to go now. My buggy whip is in need of repair.

  10. I was around half-kidding on that, Jim. Though I can't say that I've ever really talked to anyone at length during an online poker game, except when i'm really drunk.
