Virginia poker players who like to play in free bar tournaments will be affected by the smoking ban that goes into effect on December 1, 2009.

On March 9th, Gov. Kaine signed a bill to prohibit smoking in many bars and restaurants. This bans smoking in bars that do not have separately ventilated rooms.

Kaine said, "I am extremely proud to have been a part of the coalition that made this day a reality, and I am thrilled to place my signature on this monumental step forward for public health in Virginia."

This means that for many "pub poker" players they can no longer smoke when they play poker. For others it means they no longer have to endure smoke when they play poker.
